Make sure that you go visit the Terminator movie set. They filmed the first one up in the moutains. It was awhile ago when I went there, but we took a jeep tour to this site and there is a waterfall to swim at there as well. It was pretty cool. Great mountain and ocean views and did I mention iguanas?

We got back from PV in june. Great place. Just make sure its on rainy season in September. It was already starting to rain a bit in the afternoon when we got there(its the rainforest you know). The water isn't as blue as Cancun, but it feels like mexico(unlike Cancun).
we stayed at Marriot Casa Magna- $450 per person for 4 people/flight/hotel stay. the hotel is 4 stars.
I went on a canopy tours in the moutains, did a day long cruise/outing, and spent a lot of time by the pool, beach. Relaxing.
The taxi prices are fixed, and we felt perfectly safe, even when we were walking back from Senor frogs at 1 P.M.

Wow, I havent been there since 1992. We stayed a couple of weeks and I lost weight due to the humidity.
I would take a shower in our air conditioned rooms, walk outside and within 2 minutes I was sweating. A lot more humidity there vs lets say Hawaii.
Clubs, dinner cruises, walks, beach, were a few things to do. It was basically a relax time for us.
They filmed Predator back in 1985-1986 there.
I recommend Cancun and PV if you have the money and can get away from work.

Thanks to everyone for all the input, I appreciate all of it. Sounds like a nice place, but several have mentioned that 1 week could possibly be a bit long. I'll keep that in consideration and see what alternatives are available. Puerto Vallarta is still at the top of the list but if someplace comes up that seems more suitable for killing an entire week, then I'll consider that as well.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Why does everyone go to Mexico for vacation. I have been 3 times and its the same old shit each time. Nobody ever wants to do anything but go to the clubs and eat at those cheap mexican restaraunts that are overpriced because they know that visitors are willing to pay too much for so little.... I always end up going to the ruins and other mysterious places, by myself. Perhaps I am just a nerd like that. If it was me I would take my girlfriend to Europe for a grand tour, or maybe China or Russia. See the sights, learn the history, observe the beautiful architecture..... fine dine and wine every night...... but again, maybe I am just a nerd like that.

Dunno about everyone else but I've never been to Mexico for vacation, I've only been to Tijuana a few times when I was in college. At any rate I'd personally love to visit Europe and will probably be doing so next year. This year I'm in the process of finishing up grad school so my time is constrained.
But this is precisely why I'm asking the question about what there is to do in Puerto Vallarta. I'd like to get an idea so I don't head out there just to visit clubs and eat out, since I can do those things right here at home.
