Pulled Over & Discriminated
I too have been discriminated with this car. He even pulled over my friend in a civic..and asked him if everything that i was telling the cop was true. my friends story was the same as mine and he still gave me a ticket saying i was racing with my friend. Well if that was so true that i was racing..then why didnt my friend get a ticket for racing? Go figure it out for yourselves...but me and my friend are getting a lawyer cause he didnt think it was right for them to question me like they did and give only me a ticket for something that the cops claimed we were BOTH doing in the beginning. Hope this helps..just food for thought. Oh and I am 21yo Black male.

AGH!! This stuff just sets my blood pressure through the roof!!!
When I was growing up, in a predominantly white and upper class town, my black friend, whose father just happenned to be a very well known Raiders player, got arrested or pulled over ALL THE TIME. He was litlerally one of three black people in our school, and a VERY large person. (240+lbs and all muscle at 18.)
One time he was walking home from a party that was only a half mile from his house and the cops picked him up, searched him, and "offered" him a ride home. They put him in the car, got on the freeway, and started heading for Oakland!! Never bothered to ask where he lived.
Apparently the plan was to drop him off at a bus stop in Oakland, so he can find his own way home. They only turned around when he told them who is father is, and threatened to sue.
This was the icing on the cake, and his father sued the city. Diddn't get anything out of it, but at least he was never stopped or bothered again.
It just pisses me off to no end that people have to put up with this! It's not that I'm an idealist, but this country is supposed to be free.. and everyone is supposed to be equal. In fact the diversity is what MAKES this country so powerful. In thier effort to "protect" the country, these schmucks are going to destroy it.
AGH!!
BUT, rest assured that the rest of the world is the same way, if not worse. Try being hispanic in Germany. Or white in China. Or, Korean in Mexico...

The same thing happened to me when I was 19 driving a 911S in Orange. The clutch cable was broken, and the new one was on order, so I was driving without a clutch for a couple of weeks. The cop pulled me over, came up to the window and demanded "Who's car is this?"
"Is there a problem, officer?"
"WHO'S CAR IS THIS?"
"Mine."
He took my license and the registration back to his car, then returned a few minutes later. "Wow, it really is your car."
"I know."
"These are tough to drive the first time, and the way you were starting and shifting I figured you'd stolen it."
"The clutch cable's broken, so I have to drive it without the clutch."
"Be careful. And get that clutch cable fixed soon."
Sigh.

At least you'll get older. People pulled over for racial profiling won't age out.
I used to have a girlfriend in Albany. Driving up on weekends (through NJ) I never saw anyone police had pulled out of a car who wasn't black. Met a nice guy at my last track day. He drove a 911 and had plenty of stories about being harrassed for driving a Porche while black. Shameful....

Somethings never change. Back when I was a young stud doing the Springbreak scene in FL I was thrown in jail for a burnt out tailight... however, the real reason was I didn't have enough money on me to pay off the cop. He didn't want much, $10 as I recall but it was 3:00am and I'd spent everything on wine, women, and song. I was lucky. The court date to get back my bail money was the next day. They only did that once every two weeks, so most people just forefitted the bail and left the state. Cops are people too; some good, some not so good.
I know that it is the Cops that are doing the harassing of people, but I think that the root of the problem still lies with a very large section of the public. Don't get me wrong. I totally disagree with the actions of the police in these types of situation.
However, racial stereotyping doesn't grow from the police actions, it grows from the general public's reactions. The police are acting in a way that they consider a majority of the public will agree with.
If the perception of the public is that the majority of car crime is carried out by young people from racial minorities, that is who the police will focus on. That way, they won't suffer from too much bad press if people complain and they will be perceived as doing a good job.
I know and agree that this sucks, but that is the way of the world and will not change until the public change their attitudes.
