I think all the previous posts may have missed the point. That photo isn't bad it's just reduced in size without anti-aliasing which produces a crapload of jagged edges. Make sure you use anti-aliasing when you resample your photos to web sizes. Also, try turning down your contrast and sharpness settings in your camera if you can.

very astute.

It might be best to take the picture at the size you want it, if you know you will need to resize. If you want the image to be the best possible, take at the highest image size. If you want to post it, take it at something like 640x480. You can take two, one for posting and one for a print, and only use high-res on the photos you want for a personal photo album.

Well in the pictures i posted i wasnt trying to bring out anything... i just took the photos as a snap shoot .. shoot them in raw.. resized.. changed format and posted...

also with your little "gigo" thing.. the camera is a Olympus E300 DSLR with the 14-54 lens.. but if that isnt good enough for you i do have a Canon 1Ds Mark II.. but i didnt wanna get that baby wet...

You do take some nice photos though from your photoblog

what he was trying to say was that when you start with a low-quality image, like the one [edit]S2000flog[/edit] posted, the only thing you can get out of it is a lower quality image, not a higher quality one. It had nothing to do with the camera.

When you resize in Photoshop, use resampling.

^ Exactly. My point is that you have a great camera but that I can't make magic happen. Presidente criticized me for not using your photo as an example but I couldn't use yours in the size you posted so I grabbed the largest image on the page to visually show you what I was trying to say.

What program are you resizing with? I still think that's the culprit. Look for a checkbox that says "Anti-Aliasing" (or similar) and make sure it's checked. That will give you the results of the second shot I posted.

Oh, I was referring to the post photo by s2000flog. Yours are lovely. Sorry if that was unclear. I was actually thinking of trying that water shot myself.

have you tried the 14-45 kit lens? how does the 14-54 compare? i am thinking about getting it, but i'm afraid it won't be worth $450 more than the "free" kit lens.
