Question for the bankers
My brother has been using eBay to clear out his old comic books and baseball cards he used to collect as a kid. Recently, he recieved a check for some baseball cards he sold, but the check was made out to his eBay name, not his real name.
Can he deposit that check into his checking account or is he going to have to ask the buyer for a new check?

Well, he can try and cash it in person and see if he can, I wouldn't just try and deposit it b/c it may not clear and then you may get bank fees. If he can't cash it, have the buyer send a check with his real name and wait until that check clears to send off the goods.

Last summer I hosted a meet and BBQ. Somebody sent me a check made out to The Raptor. The bank teller just laughed and cashed it.
a few yrs ago, one of my good friends was going thru a phase where he was always short of money. he's my boy so what could i do but help him out when he asked. but to try and discourage the habit somewhat, i used to write him checks addressed to "Ms. Drag Queen Winner" or "Nude Dude Finalist" or something embarrassing, and he was able to cash all of those checks. he said the tellers would chuckle when they saw the checks though
