I'm about to write a $6000 money order to buy some audio equipment over the internet. They're a pretty reputable company but I was pondering the thought that they might take my money and disappear. Can I go after my money if they really do that??? They also accept personal checks, is that any safer? Thanks.

do they take credit card or paypal? paypal may be safer. i purchase online A LOT. A LOT meaning every other day or every 2 days. i wouldn't send a personal check or money order. the thing with that is you run the risk of having them run away with the money and never shipping your order. if you pay with credit card or paypal, the company can't charge you until they actually ship it. well, a lot of places don't anyway. and once they ship it, you can get shipping info from them. also, if there are any disputes, you can file a complaint to your credit card company or paypal if you can't work it out with the company directly. so there's a chance for you to get your money back. but with personal checks and money orders, you lose out.

KC3, that Internet company sounds fishy if they only take money orders and personal checks. With that amount of money, there's no way I would use a money order.
