Default Questions for Computer Savvy Folks

Hey all,

I've set up my home page to directly go to S2Ki. However lately if keeps getting changed automatically to some stupid ad web pages. I am getting tired of going to Tools/Internet Options and changing the home page address back to www.s2ki.com. Is there a quick fix for this? This is really annoying

Does my system have a virus? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Larry

no quick fix, no virus. what you have is ad-ware or maybe spy-ware.

I can't make this quick but I bet I point you where to go to get it done.

I highly recommend the following 2 programs...

Ad-Aware

Spybot

Run both (run ad-aware first) and the problem will be gone.
I run them every week and find things on my computer that I had no idea were there.
They are both really easy programs.

I recommend you check for updates before you first run. Also when you do run Ad-Aware, reply here as to how many "new objects" were found on your computer.
If you have any trouble with these programs PM me or reply to this thread and (most users on the forum use both these programs) I or someone else will help you through it.

Good luck.

I just remembered something. There are both paid and free versions of Ad-Aware. Go with the free unless you like spending money. Its the third program down on the left of that page.

I use the free and there are no problems with it.

No problem, here to help where I can....

Remember though, these programs are going to search your entire computer for problems. The time will depend on how much you have on your drive(s). I have about 20 gigs full, and it takes about 8-15 mins.

You also might want to download another web browers, like Mozilla. After installing Mozilla my spyware scans continually come up with nothing.

Alright, I installed Ad-aware 6 personal - build 6.181. Currently, it is still scanning and has scanned 38,000 objects . What are these "new objects"? I've got 387 new objects so far. Is that bad?

It just finished scanning so I just went ahead and deleted 423 new objects.

Thanks again. Hopefully this stops this madness.
