Radar incident
Adding to my list of "new" things that occur when I drive my car, I was sitting at a red light when behind me pulls up one of our local city police cars. As my top is down ('natch), he must see my Passport mounted on my windshield below the rear view mirror which is blinking no warnings. This LEO then decides to hit his radar unit setting my detector off in a flurry of screams and flashing lights. I thought it was going to vibrate off the glass! I check the mirror and he is not showing any emotion but I know it was he that did it. He follows me for about 1/4 mile before I turn off, all the time the passport screaming in defense of incoming signals. It's funny but after the attacks I found I had a lot more empathy for police and fire personnel, but this guy just reinforced my opinion that some cops are a**holes! < /rant off>
I once had a police car pull up beside me in Gilroy or Oxnard, CA. Since I was pretty much lost I asked the officer sitting in the passenger seat for directions. While we were talking the other officer turned on the radar and my detector went nuts. Not really thinking I blurted out, Hey, would you turn that damn thing off!
Not only did he turn it off but we had a good laugh and they helped me find the future site of the outlet mall I was there to inspect. The guys were really cool.
