Default Random question I thought of...

Okay, so I thought of this when I was thinking about the trip I wanted to take to Japan.

Ok, I'm going to try to explain it lol...

Say a plane takes a trip half way around the world... but because the world is round is it possible if the pilot just keeps the plane flying straight or level that the plane will eventually begin to gain altitude? I would think so, right?

When flights that are so long are taken, do pilots just pay attention to the altimeter?

Anyway, just wondering lol.

if it maintains a stable altitude then, no, the plane will be adjusted contantly to maintain the same level of flight off the ground

If a plane took off and flew in an absolute straight trajectory from a fixed point horizontal the ground then, yes, it would eventually leave the atmosphere as it shot away from the planet

I believe the opposite is true. Gravity keeps the plane level with the earth. A pilot would need to monitor the altimeter to do otherwise.

It would crash into the control console on the front, duh.

haha, minus the thin air and eventually lack thereof that is needed to generate lift via pressure differential
