I hated retail. Did it all the way through college. I liked working with people and such, but it just didn't require any real mental effort or work; I found it rather boring.

I finished my BSME and now I get to think a lot harder at work. They also pay a lot better

Just know that customer you're talking trash about funds your paychecks.
And he provides them with bedding.. assuming they don't want to sleep on the floor, it's a two way street.

Down is the under plumage (soft feathers) of some birds, namely ducks and geese. Down alternative would be an alternative to down.. most likely fake feathers, or a material with the same soft and fluffy consistency so the pillow feels as if it were real down. What next.. people admitting to not knowing what Kirchhoff's Law is

Quikag,
Thanks for the wonderful feedback. I can see that you are so smart you went right over the top of the point of this thread. Even though it was posted in BOLD letters. Good job.

Han Racer,
Thanks for the positive attitude towards this post. I can see you get the reasoning for it. After thinking about it more, I understand what you are saying about not having a clue about it. Not everyone knows what it is so I apologize if I seemed condescending towards or offended anyone. It was not my intention. I also work as a bartender at a friends bar to make some extra S money so I feel your pain on the food industry deal. I actually think my bar customers are smarter than some of the people that come into my store (I wont call them customers because I can see that some people assumed they were buying customers, who are completely different. My store is in the mall so I get all kinds of traffic. Most of it is non-buying.)

Hey kalibo...do you feel better now? Judging from your post here and then your quick smart ass way of replying back to Quikag, it's no wonder you're frustrated with customers...

You gotta remember that customers don't do what you do everyday...how often do people actually shop for a mattress? Every 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? I dunno... Do I know what down alternative is? Sure...but I'm married and know that because I've heard my wife tell me about it.

I manage a market and work with retail partners. It's all about getting to the customer's level and I just have to ECHO Quikag's comments that these people make your paycheck possible...help them understand and you'll sell more!

Thanks for the positive outlook. I see what you are saying. I agree with it. My response was in no way an argument to quikag's statements. More of a rebuttal to his arrogance and condescending tone. I think I need to change the wording in my original post. The people I'm talking about are not buying anything. I am talking about the "tire kickers" and kids that come in.

For people in retail, talking about our annoying situations is our "water cooler" talk. In my store we keep a book and write down all the stupid stuff we hear. It's a nice way to break up the monotony of the day.

-Editing original post for clarity.

I have a pretty good idea what down alternative means. I think it depends on who is asking the question. If it were me I'd be asking what down alternative consists of, ie. what material makes up the alterative. An idiot would not know what down alternative meant IMO.

One of my friends(who is more witty than I) said I should have responded with "UP."
