I'm doing lots of traveling this year and wondered if any sport rock climbers (if there are any) on the board could recommend local climbing gyms in thier area.

Also, local sport routes would be nice, although I really don't think I'm going to be taking much more than a harness and shoes. It's just too much of a pain to take the ropebag & quickdraws on a short business trip (of course if someone wanted to get together and climb outdoors, hint hint).

I'll be in the Seattle area (please don't suggest REI!) a bunch, and in the Bay area too. So if you have a favorite climbing gym that you'd suggest I'd be grateful. I'm climbing 5.11 and on a really good day 5.12a, (for outdoor consideration) and in the gym of course it doesn't matter much, just looking for a workout. Anyone interested in hosting an out of town climber?

Thanks -

I've never gone rock climbing, but my uncle used to do it all the time. I'll ask him what gym he used to climb at when he wasn't on a rock face. He works in Oakland, Ca. but he lives in Stockton, Ca.

I'll see what I can learn from him for you

Berkely Iron Works in Berkeley (Malachi goes there, too, I think) and Planet Granite in Santa Clara are the two I know if in the Bay Area. I haven't been in a while. But I prefer Iron Works.

I would recommend gyms in my area, but I am in North Carolina. It is nice to see a fellow rock climber on this board. My wife and I are going out on Monday to go climb outdoors. We might do a sport route or two if the weather holds. Have fun on your trip!

I used to rock climb when I was younger. Unfortunately, it looks like you're not coming down to the LA area. If you were, I would recommend going out to Joshua Tree and climbing all the rocks out there. That's where we used to go to train.
