S2000 as Co-star in "Hearthbreakers"
Last evening my wife and I took in the sneak preview of "Heartbreakers" (paired with "Hannibal" as the main feature -- talk about your contrasting moods!). My two-week old silver/black car is identical to the one driven by one of the movie's "stars", as discussed and shown on this board in recent weeks. My wife didn't know I had suggested we go to the double bill because "my" car would be shown in the first of the two movies, so when it first appeared on the screen I expected her to exclaim, "That's your car, isn't it, Dave!" Instead, no reaction at all!
My wife is so not into cars she didn't even recognize it! We talked about the movie afterwards and I finally said, "The real star was my car". She said, "That was your car? I thought it was a Mercedes" (the other car that got a lot of coverage in the film). She actually didn't notice the difference between the M-B and the S2000!
This was another reality check for me -- the kind often provided me by my wife, who has many interests in life that are fundamentally different from mine. Her lack of noticing the car that is now sitting in our garage was in keeping with the fact that I heard no one in the audience make any comment about a car that almost certainly none of them have ever seen in real life. It made me realize that anyone who expects that their purchase of an S2000 is going to get them noticed in any big way may be in for a disappointment. There are a lot of folks out there who seem to see many cars as essentially "all the same". Go figure.
As for the movie, I did get a kick out of Gene Hackman playing a role that gave new meaning to his last name. And Sigourney Weaver has long been one of my favs. And cameo roles by the likes of Anne Bancroft and Carrie Fisher added some spice. But, trust me folks, this flic will not be a long-player. It's so light and fluffy it'll float away within a few short weeks. So if you want to see the Stook's big-screen debut, catch it within the first two weeks of its release or prepare to wait for the video six months from now.
(And the car does get a fair amount of screen time and is shown off -- both visually and aurally -- fairly well.)

i caught 'heartbreakers' last night too.. it was worth the $7.50 despite the expected lack of plot.. i wasn't expecting a 'good movie' just the shots of jennifer love hewitt in tight dresses driving my fav car around was worth it. still some parts of the movie were somewhat entertaining.. i'd hate to see what mrcranky.com's saying.. but the s2000 actually gets alot more screen time then i thought it would.. and they get the car driving off a few times where you can hear it at some higher rpms.
At this time of year, Rob, I'm afraid the answer is no. The frost heaves and potholes are even worse than normal this season. By the time I've spent an hour driving my car around the local parkways I feel as if I've been working a pneumatic drill for a full shift.
'Course, the three primary criteria to define a good road are contour, surface and ambience. To find good contour and ambience around here, you gotta cross the border into Quebec -- though that's less than a mile from downtown Ottawa. Problem is, even in the middle of summer, the surface of those Quebec roads is the pits.
This is why 90% of my driving is done south of the border.
