Scott Adams is dead on - voice calls dying
To be fair, I hate talking on a phone period. It just feels weird
I'd rather talk in person, or via text. For whatever reason trying to keep my mind focused on a phone call usually just doesn't work because.... I just don't want to be on the phone

Nope, sorry. Texting sucks for communicating anything more complex than "C U later".
Mobile voice calls aren't going anywhere. That article is just a rant about poor service & annoying environments, but has nothing to do with the necessity or desire for mobile voice calls. Texting is popular with many people right now (especially kids) because let's face it... what they generally talk about is just not important. When something needs to be communicated quickly & accurately and allow for dynamic conversation, voice is the way to go. If you need to just tell your BFF that "OMG Justin Bieber is so gr8"... then yeah... text away.
Texting is convenient. Kind of like Tivo for communication. I'm at work and I don't have to look at a text immediately. I like the visual record too (Meet you where? Just scroll through the text thread). Yeah, voicemail works similarly but voice calls have more expectation of immediacy. Also harder to copy a voice snippet from one friend or coworker to forward to others (whole voicemail, sure, but not a section). I don't see phone calls going away but I do text more than I used to.
