Actually I believe that the name is Amdro. Works very well.

Home Depot was out of it the last time so I got the Ortho. It works well but stinks really, really bad. I mean you can't even store it in the garage!

 

Walmart, Kmart, Home Depot, TrueValue Hardware etc. It's in a white plastic bottle with a red, white an black label. Just ask the department clerk in Lawn and Garden.

You know though it doesn't work to well on Racoons. I saw one eat a whole bottle and all it did was give him the craps. All I had to do was follow the crap trail and there he was in a dumpster breathing kinda hard.

I've tried almost every type of ant poison to try to get rid of the damned ants in my front yard! I beleive the nest is under my driveway so I generally sprinkle the poison on both sides of the driveway. The next day sees dead ants all over the driveway but they keep on coming back. I can't seem to get rid of them and boy, can they bite!!!

first of all....you will NOT find amdro- fire ant killer here in los angeles, second, ortho orthene fire and killer is hard to get as well...reason being....fire ants are (for the most part) not here in so cal.. there are instances where a few fire ants are popping up in southern orange county. you probably have just black ants. the best thing to do is go to home depot and buy Real Kill Multi-purpose killere. it comes in a hose end applicator. use only outdoors. the active ingredient it permethrin. will kill all types of insects. price is 8.98....that is going to be the best bet....as for baits......they really don't have any type of bait, unless you go with the hot shot maxxatraxx ant baits, which are mainly used for inside. they a 1.98 each.. if you have any questions...let me know.... if you are going to the aug 18th event...i can bring you all the FREE chemicals you want...or pm me and i can hook up with you sometime...i am out that way often and my company deals with pesticides...... blake

Man! I'm supposed to be on the internet looking for information on ant poison...(because my wife told me to), but I'm on s2ki.com instead. What a coincidence!

What I need is something that will kill the ants (got two big colonies in my back yard), but won't hurt my dogs. Any info would be appreciated.

Texans know fire ants!
Amdro is good stuff, if you care to wait for the bait to work.
Ortho kicks major ant butt, but it smells awfull. You have to keep it in a sealed container or your house will smell like dead animals.
I use Ortho cuz I likes to see them ants die a horrible death.

 

Back in the days, I used to smoke them with my magnifying glass.
