Where were you?
I will never forget being at work, watching news reports of the first plane crashing into the tower. Later
hearing a co-worker yelling son of a bi*ch there goes another one. Wondering is this some weird computer glitch causing planes to go off course or are we under attack?

I was about 5 days from completing a six month deployment on the fast-attack submarine is was serving aboard. I was one of the first to see the message because I work in communications and I asked the Navigator of the ship if it was an exercise because it didn't sound real. A sore ending to an otherwise good deployment.

I was on my way to work on the number 7 subway in NYC. The subway is above ground in Queens and we got a really good view of the towers. We knew something was up when we saw a hole in the first tower and smoke coming out of it. It made me think about a few weeks prior to the incident when I met my then boyfriend downtown for lunch. He worked in Tower 2 and I was standing outside waiting for him and looking up to see how tall the building was. He was ok, because his boss moved his department over to Jersey City the week before the incident so he saw the whole thing across the Hudson River. Most of the people I knew who worked in either of the towers were all miraculously late to work that morning due to the usual congestion and delays of the NYC subway system during the morning rush hour.

It happened just as I was about to go to bed ...... my wife turned on BBC World to see the news before we went to bed and the first plane had just struck .... as we were watching, wondering what the hell had happened we watched live as the second one struck .... it was at that point that I said it must be an attack .... instead of going to bed as intended, we ended up staying up until about 3am watching the news and footage ......
