Default Shipping a car from CA to MI

Like the title says, I am shipping a car from CA to MI and want to know if any one has good luck with a certain company. The dealership in CA recomended DAS(Dependable Auto Shippers) but then on the evo forums there is a couple of real horror stories about that company. Not sure what to do now and I have a brand new evo IX sitting there on the sales lot in CA!

Answer this question, is it new or modified? Do you want it shipped open container or enclosed?

I just moved from NYC to Phoenix and did a ton of research on this topic to move my cars.

If the car isn't modified, the lowest point on the car is higher the 4" off the ground, and you don't mind an open container. You can go with DAS, their rates are competitive and the GPS tracking thing is pretty neat. Now if for any reason you want a enclosed container, I highly recommend these guys http://www.roadscholar.com

They got my car to me in 6 days from NYC to Phoenix, they used an enclosed container with a lift gate. They do a ton of exotics, 2 Lambos and a Ferrari were on the same container as mine. Finally they were $500 less then DAS. In fact it turns out that DAS subcontracts out to Road Scholar when they can't ship modified vehicles.

we recommend DAS here at the dealership b/c they are so well known but they subcontract out everything to smaller guys....everytime a car has been picked up it was a different company...it just depends on the area and such of where the driver is coming from and going too. that's probably where you run into the horror stories since it's smaller companies actually doing the hauling and you just pay DAS.

Well, you guys make me feel a lot better about shipping with them. There are people talking crazy stories about them on evolutionm.net. The car is brand new, not modified. I dont mind open container at all as long as they dont **** it all up. I am going to try and get the dealership to drive it to the terminal since it is only 26 miles away and then I am picking it up at the terminal in Chicago which is 130 miles away from here. So hopefully there will be no other companies touching the car. Driving the car back is an option but kind of stupid if you ask me. Reason being is I would have to take off work on a Friday and fly out there, then use the remainder of the weekend to drive back. Next two weekends I have weddings to attend so it would sit on the there lot for three more weeks, I dont know how thrilled they would be about that! Also the cheapest plane ticket I found so far was $650, 2150 miles / 22mpg @ $3.20 = $313 is more expensive than shipping!
Thanks for the suggestions guys I will keep on researching!

there are crap loads of shipping companies now so you can definitely research and find tons......the best ones would be the huge 2 level outside trailers you see them delivering new cars with...but just with used cars. that could save money b/c of the "bulk" shipping.
