It just dosn't seem right when the people in office got less votes than those that are not.

The only drawback to the electoral college system in my eyes is that it games the election process so that any political party aside from the two majors cannot compete.

The web has a good recent example of this:

Candidate Pop Vote %; Electoral Votes; States Won
Clinton (D) 47,402,357 49.0%; 379; 31
