Default Simple computer question...

Forgive me guys, this is extremely simple, but I don't use Outlook myself, this is for my mum.

I've installed Win XP Pro on my mum's computer, along with it, Outlook for her email. All of that is OK, the problem is the Outlook Spellcheck, it's there, but I can't make it work.

I can see the icon in the toolbar, but it isn't in color, so when typing a message it won't work. I've been to "Customize" to make sure it's there, and it is, but nothing I do makes it work. I've tried looking for some Spellchecker adder in Tools, been everywhere really, can't find it. I've even tried highlighting the message, but the Spellcheck still won't work for me.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? All I want is for the message to be automatically spell checked before being sent.

Again, sorry for the simple questions.

Did you try the built in help facility?

When you said that the icon isn't "in color", did you mean that it is "greyed out" and therefore not functional?

Assuming you really mean Outlook and not Outlook Express (since the confusion does frequently arise)

When you're done composing your e-mail, either hit "F7" or select:
Tools -> Spelling...

You can also set Outlook to automatically check spelling before sending e-mails:
In the main Outlook window menu bar (as opposed to the e-mail editor window), click:
Tools -> Options

Select the "Spelling" tab, and check "Always check spelling before sending"

Alternatively, you can just use Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor, and that'll give you access to Microsoft Words extremely powerful spelling/grammar checker:
On the menu bar click:
Tools -> Options
Select the "Mail Format" tab and check"Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages."

Tell her to learn how to spell?

I usually just use Word when I need to spellcheck things.
