Computer privacy question
I've been wondering about something, and I figured this site is as good as any to post the question...So, my questions is: To what extent can an employer read your e-mails from work? I am pretty certain that any e-mails from your work account can be read, but what about yahoo, hotmail, etc. e-mails that you send while you are at work and using your employer's computer system. Can the actual e-mails be read? I'm sure they can see that you are using yahoo, hotmail, etc., but can they see the actual content of your e-mails? I'm just wondering. It would be nice to know how much they may be seeing. Thanks.
Ever hear of a packet sniffer? Unless the email is encrypted or you are using an SSL connection to a webmail server, then the answer is yes, it can all be read with a little reconstruction.
Check out a program called Ethereal. It's OpenSource. Watch out though, if you use it at work, and they find out you're packet sniffing, that's worse than sending naughty emails.
