Slacking - The Saga Continues
Many of you read the very valuable thread, Slacking 101. I hope that you took away some useful and practical methods to enhance your slacking capability. I know many of the tips there have helped me be a better slacker.
Just thought I would update everyone on the slacking going on here. I am changing my work schedule to accomodate a 4 day "work" week. This means that I wil have Fridays to interview for another project...as I am self employed, I have the freedom of portability in my career.
So today, I rolled in at 9:00 am, said hello to the manager who I haven't seen in over a week. She asked me to check one of the mainframes for something twice a day. That gives me 6 minutes of work to do each day. Now, my dilemma. What are your suggestions for filling the other 9 hours and 54 minutes? OK, at least half of that I can spend reading the forum. Let's be generous and say 6 of the remaining 9h 54m. That leaves 3h 54m open.
Any ideas on what I could do to fill the time?

Get one of those "work from home" jobs and do it at work. Earn extra money in your spare time!
Plus, you'd have the added advantage of being able to buy more parts for the s2k, or even sponsor a track day outing or something....

That mainframe may need a spare widget or two. You know the parts they make at the plant near Lake Geneva. And you have to pick them up in person. And it's a nice day: sunshine , 75 degrees. What do you think?
sumir,
I was actually thinking the same thing. If Greg really did that, his day would be longer than 10 hours.

Good suggestions, guys...
BTW, I have been employing the Multiple Window Effect (MWE, for short), to create the appearance that I am actually doing something. That's the technique mentioned in the Slacking 101 thread that employs having at least 7-8 open windows of various kinds open and on screen. A couple of browsers, a couple Word documents, an Explorer window or two. You get the idea....

Somebody, just shoot me...
I think the days of the 3 hour lunch are over, actually. That manager, who is very close to me, that I said hello to this morning? Yea, she's back from her 1 1/2 week vacation...

Uh oh, just got an email....oh, nevermind...false alarm...WTF am I still doing here, it's 4:22?!

You haven't yet reached the Office Space level of not caring. That is your weakness. My manager just came back from his 2 week vacation today. I went in to see him at 11:15 Am for him to sign some trivial bullshit paperwork for me. I then left at 11:30. His desk is about 25 feet from mine. I just don't care anymore after all these months of pretendiing to be busy.
