Default Some meth head tried to take my car

So this morning went to drive into work and noticed my rear drivers side tire was low. So I drove down the street to the local gas station to air up the tire. After I air up the tire I go to leave and the car won't start, car seems to have plenty of power, and the fuel pump is coming on, but when I push the start button I just get a click. Figuring the battery is dead I call up my wife who hadn't left the house yet to come up and give me a jump start.

She arrived after about 5 minutes and I hook up both cars, but still nothing on the car... just a click but not even attempting to turn over. I decide I'm just gonna push start the car and mess with it tonight. During this time I see a small mexican guy in a grey sweatshirt and jean shorts walking through the parking lot of the gas station, but I don't pay him too much attention. Well as I finish putting the jumper cables in the trunk and am closing the hood, the guy walks up and jumps into my car, I had left the door open but the keys were in my pocket. I ask him WTF? and he states, you know what this is... give me your car or call 911. I tell him to get out of the car, and he does, but he repeatedly asks for the car... and even tries to bargain with me that he will give me his $20 bluetooth headset for the car. I am not overly concerned, the guy is about 5'5" and weighs maybe 100 lbs but he had a duffel style bag with him and I'm not sure if he's armed or not.

Rather than pull out my cell phone, I decide to go into the convenience store and have the clerk call the cops to check the guy out. He follows me into the store, and continues to ask me for the car. I tell him the car isn't working, he says he can get it fixed up... he just needs it for a week. He also tells me he needs a million dollars or my car, he keeps repeating "you know what this is, give me the car or call 911". I ask the clerk to call the cops, the clerk seems to know the guy, and tells the guy to leave me alone. The guy then tells the clerk the same thing, you know what this is, call 911. Obviously the guy is trying to get arrested... but the clerk doesn't seemed to interested in getting the cops involved.

By this time my wife had swung her car by the front door of the convenience store, so I walked out and got in the car with her and asked her to drive arround and call the cops. We park a few feet away from my S2000 and tell the 911 dispatcher what is going on. About a minute into the conversation, the guy walks out of the store and starts coming towards us. I tell my wife to drive a few feet away, and we keep an eye on him in the mirror. He goes up to the car and starts trying to open the doors, the hood, and the trunk. I'm afraid he's going to try and do something to the car, so I hit the panic button on the remote and that causes him to back off a little but he stays near the car.

About that time the cops show up, two officers in matching Chevy Tahoes. The guy doesnt try to run or anything, but I'm too far away to hear the conversation between the officers and the guy. After searching him, the officers put him in the back of the Tahoe and ask me what was going on. I give them the story, and they ask me to fill out a statement. After searching his bag, they found he had 4 baggies with meth in them, and some jewelry that was likely stolen. They said they were going to charge him theft of property between $20k - $25k, they could have gone with Grand Theft Auto, but since he never actually moved the car they didnt think it would stick.

After all that excitement, I got a guy to help me push start the car and drove it home. The car started right up with popping the clutch, but the power steering was not working, and neither was the radio. I drove the car home and put it in the garage and had my wife drive me to work. Still not sure what the issue is with the car.

TL,DR version. Car had low tire, after putting air car wont start. Got wife to give me a jump start, car wont start. Meth head tries to take car, cops get called. Meth head taken to jail, car still wont work. Happy Monday after Thanksgiving.

It was obvious he wanted to get arrested, prolly been on a drug binge through the holiday weekend. Regardless, glad everything ended up peacefully, but when you have someone obviously under the influence... you never know what will happen.

hahahahaha! OMG I was reading and dyeing laughing.

I know that's a super shitty situation to be in. I'm glad no one got hurt.

Good Luck on the S.

you have a lot of patience... I would have dealt with him a different way right... especially if he got inside the car.

Things would definitely gone a different route if I had been armed, or he had threatened me or my wife. In the end, I think the guy was strung out and just looking to cause enough trouble that he would be taken to jail.

He sat in the car for all of 30 seconds before I got him out. We went over the car carefully and nothing was damaged, still it's not a good feeling having some complete stranger jump into your car.

Your positive/negative battery cable is loose, or not making enough contact.
