Default Star Trek

Personally I've never been a fan of Star Trek. I've watched the series with Professor X once or twice and the older series with William Shatner a few times, but that's about it. This however, looks amazing. Check it out and tell me what you think.

ps, move this to movies if you want

would you have to be a star trek fan to understand it? I've never seen an episode but the movie looks good.

From this gist of the trailer it looks like they might be taking a Batman Begins type of approach to the film. I know nothing of Star Trek so I'm hoping I'm right.

I used to be a fan when I was a kid, watched TNG and DS9, and thought Voyager pretty much sucked all around. The most recent Enterprise TV series was pretty good, but was only a slightly "badder" take on the old mold. I was never a fanboi of ST, but I did prefer it over Star Wars.

This looks like a completely reset and refocused take on the series, and it looks very good. I think this flick will appeal to just about anyone, and I can't wait for the next ST movie that's actually good.

the wikipedia article pretty much states its not a reset. sounds like it should be pretty faithful to the original. time will tell....

Speaking of Star Wars, if George Lucas ever decides to get his head out of his ass he should watch this movie and take some pointers. If there was ever going to be a newer Star Wars movie that was actually good it needs to look something like this trailer does.

Give me $70,000,000 or however much it costs to produce a film like Star War and I guarantee I could make you want to watch it. Stay with me for a second...imagine a rated-R Star Wars film. First, take everything out of the plot that would be childish...jar jar binks, stupid droids, whatever and replace it with a raw story similar to what I think they're trying to do with this new Star Trek film or a reinvention of a story like the Batman/Dark Knight. Second, get A-Class actors to play the main parts...Christian Bale, Denzel Washington, whoever. Thirdly...whatever you do...don't let George Lucas be a part of it. In my opinion Star Wars oozes potential and has the capabilities to be turned into an epic movie such as the Dark Knight or 300, but it needs to be more adult oriented and it needs more than anything to have depth and soul and not flashy effects and ridiculous kung-foo light saber battles like episodes 1-3. The problem is that George Lucas holds basically all the rights to Star Wars and everything I mentioned above will probably never happen because he's too worried about making millions selling out the series rather than giving it a reputable name. Screw you Lucas.
