Default stopped drinking

friend of mine who drinks "socially" said that he felt pathetic for drinking so he tried to stop. last night, he's bummed cuz he goes to bars and doesnt drink. he says that going to bars is not really any fun, but the booze would cover up that fact in the past. he says he is thinking about drinking again, but knows it's stupid. sounds like many of you drink and think it's cool, etc. just wanted to hear some thoughts.

I figured I spent over $30K in booze in my years of partying and bar hopping before I came to the conclusion your friend has.
Tell him to get a hobby and save his booze money for a new sports car. Ive met the coolest people in the shooting sports and have way more fun than getting drunk with a bunch of knuckleheads. I just wish I wouldve learned sooner.
***This is just MY opinion, but I sincerely regret spending all of that cash and having jack squat to show for it.

i have only been "drunk" 2 times in the past 15 years.... but in college we would drink until we didn't remember stuff all the time.... it was funny.... no idea how no one got killed.

I got caught for hit and run at age 18 and I didn't even remember driving home.....doh! Luckly no DUI. I stopped drinking for about 2 weeks...

I had a bumper sticker "Beer - helping the white man dance since 1892" (or something like that).

I think the fun is that you say stuff you normally wouldn't, do things more fun, etc...... drinking to a degree is fun..... now I would have to drive home vs in college we just slept wherever, etc....

but it becomes a cruch. a healthy person ought to be able to have great fun while not inebriated. then when u have fun, u can actually remember it.

i NEVER understood why people think drinking is cool. made them look like a bunch of lemmings.

it makes girls who are normally 3's look like 10's...

give it a whirl man!

Now I am thinking back to the good old days.... no car, cheap rent, working in a bar.... we used to hook up the bartenders with food and they'd hook us up with free drinks.... I actually worked a few times and didn't remember most of the shift.... I remember making chili with softball sized clumps of meat. we had a pretty lenient boss.

I usually drink enough just to loosen up, but I usually go to 18+ clubs with my girlfriend and her friends...I like It better than bars and people seem to actually go to the clubs to dance and hang out not to get shitfaced.I usually only have a shot or two or a couple beers and that'll work for me as Its all I really wanna spend on alcohol(2 shots=$5.75-$8 each) and my girls smirnoffs/bacardi's are $3.85 a peice and she'll usually have 3-4.I've been drinking since I was 18(21 In 3 days) and the most I've ever drank In one night was 14 beers and a yager bomb and that was at my jobs christmas party and beer was free and shots/drinks were half priced. My job requires alotta concentration and detailed work, so I can't afford to screw upbecause of a hangover.

Around here in NJ, drinking at some bars has almost become a luxury. Beers go anywhere from $3 at the low end places up to $6 or so. Most mixed drinks are around $10-12.

I much prefer a morning workout to a hangover so I don't go out much, I am much more in favor of going out for a good dinner. I'd rather go to bed at 11pm and get up at 7 on the weekend for a nice bike ride than go to bed at 2am and get up at 11am the next day and have to work out then. Being up late throws off my schedule now, I can't party like my college days any more.

One more thing...I have found that you can never really just stop doing something, you can only replace it with something else.

Tell your buddy to pick up a new sport, hobby, etc. it makes it much easier.
