Default Stupid airlines -

Tell me why this makes sense. Some airlines now charge a fee for checked bags to make up for a rise in fuel charges. My rants on this situation:

1. More people will try to jam oversize bags in the overhead storage
2. Longer security lines as people try to bring skiis, golf bags, and other items thru the x-ray.
3. I am 150lbs and get charged $25 for a 30lb bag but a 300lb woman pays the same as me. She should have to pay for them to haul her obese, heavy breathing, french fry eating ass.
4. The fees get higher and the service gets poorer - No wonder they are all failing

^ Start your own airline and do something about it.

Also, to address your point #1, they are going to be more strictly enforcing the size restrictions on carry-ons.

I agree with point #3, though. I wish they would charge fatties more to travel. It's especially unfair when their blubber causes them to overhang the armrest into my seat.

Many people have started their own airline. I call mine the NFR express. Guaranteed not to fly more than 18 inches for those scared of high places.

As far as strictly enforce carryon restrictions, I have heard that song and dance before. It will last right up to the point where "Discount Airlines Inc." lets some pass, then they will all do it to keep customers. In laymans terms, that is about a week.

I am not a slender person, but even I think that if they should charge passengers by the pound instead of by the seat. At least have an width restriction similar to a carry on restriction, where if your "cabose is bigger than the tracks can handle" you get charged extra.

Fine, but I want more space for my extra fare then (I'm 6'1", 225 lbs). I've never intruded into an adjacent seat and go out of my way to not negatively affect anyone around me. 150 lb guys should have no problems with the seats being 2" closer and 4 abreast rather than 3, so you can have the same quality experience that I get.

And while we're at it, kids (who'll fly real cheap under this system) have to go in the cargo section so they can't kick my ****ing seat on a red eye ever again.

+1 on that sentiment! Actually, anybody that kicks (or even puts their feet on) the back of a seat should get ejected. That annoys the ever-livin' crap out of me.

You just have to be an asshole about it. I live in CA but my home is in PA, so I fly cross country 3-4 times a year. I have never had a problem politely but firmly telling the walrus next to me that she/he has to move their arm (including all fat attatched to it) off my armrest.

I am with you there, the airlines are in the people freight business. Weight equates to more fuel.

Maybe higher costs will be an incentive to lose weight.

The best way to charge based on weight is to have different brackets.

150lbs or under = x price
151lbs to 250lbs = y price
251lbs or over = z price
By the way, this is total bullshit. A 737-900 weighs 98500 lbs empty, 187k MTOW of which about 53000 lbs is fuel, and seats about 200. If 200 people are flying and there's a full fuel load, each person is paying for 493 lbs of airplane, 265 lbs of fuel, and them self. 150 lb person is paying for 908 lbs, 250 lb person is 1008 lbs, and this isn't even factoring in the weight of luggage which should be a factor too. So the fat guy's ticket is 11% higher priced... and you've just added another step to the process (weighing everyone and their stuff), and opened yourself up to some nice discrimination lawsuits.

The added complexity of price/lb isn't worth the marginal gains you'd see. And you really need to look at total weight, which might encourage people to try and carry less than 130 lbs of luggage for a 3 day trip.
