Yep, he should have known that. There was a time when I worked at Nordstrom. I was on my lunch in the middle of the mall talking to my prom date when out of nowhere one of our LP guys comes chasing after two guys. They split up in different directions, and so I decide to go after the one he doesn't.

I remember thinking to myself, how am I going to stop this guy? I didnt want to speed up and tackle him because I didnt want to get in trouble for that. I just ended up running him until he couldnt run anymore. We ended up on the other end of the mall in the parking lot before he gave up and started begging me to let him go.

I called the cops and he got arrested and put in jail ahahahaha. I kinda felt bad though because he said it was his friends idea. You know he was probably the one that had the feeling something bad was going to happen. Anyway, I had the sense not to tackle the guy, but then again, I had the knowledge of what could happen if I did too.

Edit: Oh yeah, the cops were making fun of him because I ran him down in a suit. He was laying on the ground when they pulled up gasping for air lol.

Wow, how times have changed in this country!!! Back when I worked in retail, you saw someone stealing you beat the shit out of them and then gave them to the cops...kinda makes me want to stop shopping at BB.

Most or all of the corporations today are a bunch of whiny pussies.

this isn't really news... retail employees are never supposed to get into physical confrontations with shoplifters. do your job, let the cops do theirs...

Perfect example in this story why they aren't allowed to and why they were fired. What was the guy walking out with? Couple grand of merchandise at best, probably much less.

What if he sues. Or the manager who got cut sues, or even just goes on workers comp due to injury? That's a lot more than a couple grand. Most retail stores don't want the bone heads they hire escalating things for good reason.

It's sad, but that's the world we live in.

I bet you if the people robbing the store had stuck around they could have sued BB for the employees tackling them.

if they tried to hold the guy, then ya, they'd have a case. holding someone against their will is not allowed, unless you're law enforcement or doing a citizen's arrest. and you can only do those in very specific circumstances, and i don't believe shoplifting qualifies.

Grand theft would qualify (felony) would it not? Depends on the value of the merchandise.

It may be policy, but its pretty weak and if the decision were up to me, I would have told them why we had the policy and sent them back to work. They were just sticking up for the store.

Hopefully they will find better gigs. Maybe they can be bouncers or something.

agreed but i highly doubt what he was carrying qualifies.

now, after he pulls a weapons, that's armed robbery.. so, i think that would qualify.
