Tackle a shoplifter, get fired.
First a bank teller gets fired for tackling a robber and now this. Just shows that society is getting sick of aholes getting away with shit.
This society is getting so backwards. They should have been allowed to kick the shoplifter in the head and hog tie him until the cops came. Goddamn fear of lawsuits means go ahead and let someone rape steal and pillage because otherwise if you hurt them in the process they could sue you.
F that.

[QUOTE=NFRs2000NYC,Aug 19 2009, 12:41 AM] So wait a minute....
I can walk into a BestBuy....pick up a 50" screen (I'm a big dude,) waltz out the front door, and it's against company policy to stop me?

Actually, as an American, no one has the right to stop or delay you unless they are law enforcement, so yes, you can shoplift and walk right out, and all witnesses can legally do is record your information for police. If you walked out with a TV, people would have penty of time to record your physical features, your car, etc.
If you've ever seen a security guard interact with a shoplifter, all they do is ask the shoplifter to come back into the store with them - they can b intimidating, but they can't make them come back in.

I'll be back in an hour and I'll let you know how this goes. TTYL!

Actually, citizens witnessing a crime can make a citizen's arrest, but they can't use force to detain you.

now, if some CC guy nearby had shot him after he pulled the knife... solve the problem of shoplifting AND he can't sue... cause he's dead!
