Default Tasteless Jokes: Who's At Fault Really?

So my friend tells me this racial joke. Is the person who laughs just as bad as the one who tells it??? Your thoughts?

I tend to think that it depends on the person who the joke is being told to and who tells the joke. I mean there is a difference between my friends be it white, black, or brown telling me a beaner joke and some random guy telling me the joke. I think in a sense you can relate to jokes better from a person from your own race than others. Thats why Giter dumb is so pop with the white trash, and George lopez is so popular with hispanics, cause we ralate to the jokes.

The first question should be is it wrong to tell a racist joke in the first place? I'm thinking about Carlos Mencia, I don't think he means any of his jokes as insults or put-down. It's just comedy. And the other aspect which makes it "OK" is the fact that he makes fun of everyone.

Jokes based on social or racial stereotypes are just bad for everybody.

Whether you find them funny or not, it just perpetuates more stereotyping and more bias.

I could write pages about different issues with this but it all boils down to this:

How is it funny if Carlos Mencia or George Lopez goofs on the Mexican or Spanish race and its stereotypes but it would be considered out of line if I joked about it?

How is it funny if Chris Rock or Richard Pryor makes jokes about black people and use disparaging terms like

While I agree with most of what has been said above I think too many people are too easily offended. Some people just seem to look for a reason to be offended.

Stereotypes do perpetuate bad things, but in many cases enough people fit behavior that created the stereotype in the first place.

Yeah I hate tasteless jokes. My friend comes up to me and says:

What does a woman do when she gets out of the battered women's shelter?

The dishes if she knows whats good for her!

I just hate it when people tell those jokes.

(OK I heard it on Howard Stern)

So they can stand closer to the oven.

What do you call a woman with two black eyes?

Nothing, you've told her twice already.

Why can't Helen Keller drive?
