Hey, I get 115 points!

How difficult is it really procedurally to be let in? Lots of paperwork, but basically just going through the motions?

Given the time of year you mention, I would go the Spain / Italy Route. This approach has a few advantages, cheaper airfare, shorter flight duration, and you can arrange it so you have a stop-over in London if you still want to see that part of the world.

Also, in April / May you will miss the tourist season in Spain and Italy.

Another suggestion is to take advantage of Spain's parador system -- essentially a collection of historic buildings turned into nice hotels (around 80-120 EURO's a night) to save them from ruin. Many of them are amazing, in particular the parador in Trujillo:

One of the nicer things about the Spanish and Italian folks is their relaxed attitude. You won't see any ruins left in Great Britain or France that allow you to hurt yourself:

Another town everyone should visit at least once -- well two really, although they are only 120KM apart is Seville and Cordoba. Both have an amazing Moorish / Catholic architectural influence.

The only problem with these countries? The tiny beers.

I still think travelling in the EU while the Euro is at sky high rates is wasted money.

We just got back from Spain and Morocco in Dec. and it was great. Check out my link in the Carolinas forum for pics. and a write up.

We are going to NZ at the end of this year but I think it needs more than two weeks. The plane ride alone is about 36hrs one way.

Northern Europe is fun too, since you can rent a car and visit several countries in a short amount of time.

Just remember that the dollar is at an all time low, so factor that into your budget.

Have fun!
