We shouldn't spend a dollar of taxpayer money trying to save those idiots

don't spend any money saving people who get in backcountry skiing, hiking, climbing, or whatever accidents either. def not surfing accidents, or those assholes that still sail through the somali waters

disagree with all of the above. completely different. should we all stay locked in our homes for fear we might break a leg somewhere and need emergency services?

/sarcasm?

if you don't believe we should spend money helping out more adventurous travelers than yourself...

societies have developed a weird system for these kind of things...do the crazy shit, carry the risks... but if things go horribly wrong, the govt/firefighters/heli rescue will bail your ass out....unless you get standed on the top of k2 or some shit. lets not say that doesnt exists, and these people somehow crossed the line by hiking in iraq
if you look at my various posts, i simply said they were stupid.

we'll still end up helping them as much as we can, and i don't think that is a bad thing. like i said in my earlier post, which wasn't sarcasm, people doing dangerous sports/athletic stuff still deserve assistance when they screw up.

doesn't make them less dumb, and it doesn't mean i feel sorry for them.

...then they will send you a nice healthy bill. Most emergency services bill the hikers/skiers/mountainbikers for usage of manpower and equipment if they determine that the hikers were negligent...and everyone seems to agree these hikers were pretty damned negligent.
