we'll still end up helping them as much as we can, and i don't think that is a bad thing. like i said in my earlier post, which wasn't sarcasm, people doing dangerous sports/athletic stuff still deserve assistance when they screw up.

doesn't make them less dumb, and it doesn't mean i feel sorry for them.
At what dollar amount do you stop trying to save people? How many other lives should be put at risk to save 3 other lives?

0$ and 0 lives in my opinion in this instance.

i dunno look at it this way. your job is diplomatic negotiations. your paycheck comes to you every 2 weeks regardless of what you're doing. if you spend some of your time working on getting these 3 released, is that actually costing the taxpayers any *more* money than we were already paying? in my view it's just taking up someone's time. and as for risking lives, i'm not talking about sending in a strike team to liberate them... just diplomacy. no lives risked.

i don't know that i can put a $ value on freeing some very stupid americans from a very nasty place.

The short answer is yes - The money, effort, resources should be going towards resolving other issues and not rescuing idiots.

I can only imagine what the cost was to get those two ladies out of North Korea. You can be certain that a large chunk of tax payer dollars was spent, along with the private money for the Clinton trip.

bwahaha. when you get in a car wreck while speeding ill be sure and let the fire dept know that, since you were in the wrong, you wouldnt want any money wasted saving your life.

also, remember, we dont have relations with iran... the swiss are doing our dirty work for us.
When I'm at the track and "speeding" (is it really speeding if there are no speed limits?) there is an ambulance there that I helped pay for.

As for the fire trucks, I pay local taxes to help cover their inconvenience.

I'm glad you posted this topic. Some Americans traveling abroad have no clue how dangerous other countries are. If you think you are even a 1 mile of the border, get the hell out.

Thsese hikers are dumbasses like the two Koreans near the North Koreans border.
