Default Those of You with Allergies

Roughly three years ago, I woke up one day and found out I had allergies, and it has been raising hell every spring since then. I managed to get through them without any medication but I want to try something this year.

Can anyone recommend an over-the-counter drug that effectively relieves allergy symptoms?

Thanks in advance.

I dont know if this is over the counter now, but I use Allegra with great results. Clariton works when there isnt much of what ever causes you allergies (i.e. low pollen count). Allegra works for me pretty well even when conditions are pretty severe.

I remember Allegra being non-prescription. I will check. Thanks.

Does any of those cause drowsiness?

All allergy medications cause drowsyiness. Just some less than others.

Do allergies eventually go away? I've heard of a few cases.

I can't imagine living with allergies for the rest of my life.

It's different for everyone. There's no answer. It can come at random, it can all of a sudden go away for a while/forever/never.

Ya, allergies for your whole life sucks. It's nothing like having other problems though...

Why don't you go to an allergist and get shots? They seem to be the most effective way to handle them..and you won't have to feel drowzy all day long...

after a while you learn to deal with them.

can someone tell me what happens when people don't have allergies and don't react to things? or is it just that someone with allergies reacts badly to something it really doens't have to

This is typically done for food allergies, which my wife has. However, I got her to stop going, because I think it's one of the stupidest treatments ever devised.

The idea is to inject into your body a small amount of what you're allergic to, so that you eventually stop producing antibodies to fight it.

However, rather that go through this annoyance, you could just consume a small amount of whatever it is you're allergic to and save yourself the trouble. My wife for example is allergic to wheat among other things. But she still eats bread in small quantities, and it doesn't really cause her much harm anymore because she's used to it. Things like eggs, on the other hand, are a huge no-no.

My problem with the shots is really that people get them thinking they're receiving something like a vaccine, and it's not even remotely the case.
