Allegra gets my vote. I snort some in the AM when I get out of the shower and I am good until the next morning. The pills seem to not work, dry me out or put me to sleep.

For me, Allegra has been my salvation.

Thanks for the help guys. It's started to rain again and it seems like the symptoms are not as severe so I guess I'll try to hold off the medication for now.

Thanks a lot though.

With controlled experiments, I've found that smoking actually relieves me of some of the allergy symptoms such as nasal congestions. Can anyone explain why this is??

I had allergies to grass and pollen. Once I moved to the desert all my allergies went away. My advice, get on Flonase!!! Or Move to where there is no grass/trees. I love Phoenix!

Smoking tends to dry out mucous membranes in the nose and throat. This is how many OTC and prescription allergy meds work. Though your histamines may still be active, there simply isn't much in the way of 'juicy goodness' in your nose to tamper with, so you don't FEEL the symptoms.

I've suffered on and off with allergies since I was a child (I'm 30 now). They come and go, and the things I'm allergice to come and go also. I still have bad bouts of allergies (yes, even in Phoenix) due to the high pollen counts and air pollution.

When they start bothering me, I take Claritin or Alavert (OTC version). The one that INCLUDES the decongestant seems to work the best for me. If it isn't available, I just take the loratadine pill along with a 12-hour decongestant like Sudafed, and it works like a charm. No drowsiness at all! The only catch is you have to take it and keep taking it for several days sometimes, in order for it to build up in your system. That means relief may not be immediate, depending on the severity of the attack and your own immunology tolerances.

Wow. Thanks for the help.

Yesterday was the worst allergy day in the pass three years that I've been allergic. It was HORRIBLE.
