Well its not about you DAve Z 5 years in army does not qualify for: "Someone of great sign., importance, that has impacted the world the most, for better or worst."

You know Hitler was Times man of the year once.

Just my 2 cents on this subject,

but then again I think it should go to George W. Bush for convincing an entire nation of followers that 911 was some how tied into Irac, and that he already had WMD in production. Quite a feet to lie and decieve the entire public, well most of the public anyway. All this talk about how bad this guy was (Sadam) when we helped put him in power, and gave him all the weapons tech that he had including the chemical weapons program, oh I forgot it was George Bush that did that. Like father like son.

I am so going to get flamed now.

Remember in a democracy we are suppose to not be persecuted for our ideas or beliefs, that is up until you had to be pro war or you were anti-american. Post 911 fever.

Interesting topic. According to Time the concept is thus...

The Man Of The Year award is given to "the single person who, for better or worse, has most influenced events in the preceding year."

The concept seems pretty straight forward.

I agree that the title however is certainly unusual in that it doesn't equate to our ideas of what those sort of titles normally mean.

Whenever a villian makes it there is always a lot of debate about it due to understandable misconceptions about the title.

In any event it's a great advertising/selling method if it creates controversy and debate (probably just what it's designed to do.)

Why would Saddam be Man Of The Year? He didn't do anything all year but play hide-and-seek.

On one hand we have a dictator so dangerous (according to Bush at least) that we had to invade an entire country without delay to get him. On one hand we have a dictator who has eluded the entire US military for months on end until he was sold out by some relatives. On the other hand we have "the American soldier" doing his job. Yes, a dangerous job, but a relatively ordinary job at that. And let's be frank, 500 deaths, this ain't Vietnam. Don't get me wrong, lots of respect the men and women of the military, but Person of the Year? Time magazine, you suck ass.

i somewhat agree ttb

Saddam didn't do anything? Because of him we're spending billions of dollars invading a country. Because of him we're at war.

Person of the Year does not mean "good person of the year"
