Is tipping required for take out?
i say no tipping for take out.
tipping is way out of hand, every waitperson thinks they deserve a tip for doing their f'in job. i have no problem tipping well, but it is for going above and beyond. if they don't like their job, they should obtain the qualifications to get a better paying job.

^ No offense but you obviously don't know anything about the serving industry.
Servers get paid about 2 dollars an hour from the restaurant. These 2 dollars an hour are simply to offset taxes. When they recieve their actual check it ends up being literally a dollar to ten dollars.
This means that they make all their money off tips. I'm sure many others on here can vouch for it

I deliver pizza part time and while we get paid minimum wage, it isn't enough to pay the bills with. There have been multiple times where I have not received a tip and it never fails to piss me off. Granted, I know it isn't carry out, but it is still a common courtesy.
I think the most recent event I can think of, is delivering $80 worth of pizzas, and getting a big fat Zero where the tip was.

No offense taken. A good discussion is always welcome.
Well in my overly liberal state, our minimum wage is something around $7+, so definitely not $2/hr. I stand by my assertion that everyone has a choice, and they have made the choice to be in the service industry. if they don't like it or believe that their compensation is not commensurate with their skills/responsibilities then they should reconsider their career choice.

FWIW
I had Ruby Tuesday take out last week and a small tip was already added to the bill, something like 7 or 8%. So if 15% is the average, and if Ruby Tuesday is the authority on establishing tipping standards, then tipping for takeout should be half of tipping for full service.

the thing about that was, even though I'd get stiffed every now and then, other people would make up for it. it all balanced out in the end.
but $12/hour after tips wasn't worth the wear and tear.

Delivery is different. It definitely deserves a tip.
I don't tip for take out.
I tip 20+% for dine in, as long as the experience is good.
