I stand by my assertion that everyone has a choice, and they have made the choice to be in the service industry. if they don't like it or believe that their compensation is not commensurate with their skills/responsibilities then they should reconsider their career choice.
and fwiw, when I worked at a restaurant, 90% of the people spent their tip money on booze and drugs that night....

Well in my overly liberal state, our minimum wage is something around $7+, so definitely not $2/hr.
if no, they get $2.13 (IIRC). the rest is made from tips. this is because there are different laws in place for minimum wage of tipped jobs.

"...For many Washington restaurants, the down economy coupled with this year's automatic increase in the state's minimum wage from $8.07 to $8.55 per hour is hurting them. Added to that, Washington law does not allow for a tip credit. In other words, waiters in Washington state restaurants earn $8.55 as a base wage and tips are outside or above the wage calculation. Since Washington has the nation's highest minimum wage, in bad economic times like these, those costs to restaurant owners add up...

so your waiter who makes $2.00/hr doesn't deserve a tip for waiting on you? ok dude. hope you like spit in your food.

lol jokes on the waiter... he doesnt know he is gonna get stiffed till after i eat
plus, i would love for the waiter at a megachain restaurant to spit in my food. then when i catch him on my camera phone, i can sue sue sue...
if the waiter works for a small restaurant, and word gets out that they get caught spitting, the restaurant will lose its customer base real quickly and the waiter will be outta a job.
should the waiter try to use their limited intelligence and try to be sneaky by spitting in the back, well, who cares...doesn't change the taste of the food to me and i wouldn't know anyways.
i hope concept of tipping dies out like american automobile companies, the UAW, and the average american's sense of entitlement.
the waiter should be so lucky to have a job with the limited education and skills they possess.
