Took Apart My Playstation 2 - Details Inside
The problem was that it wouldn't turn on. I knew it wasn't the cord because it worked with my original PS1 (you can switch between the two...it's ok).
So it was something w/ the power supply. When I got to the motherboard, I saw two fuses. I took both of them into a local electronics store, like Radio Shack, and the guy tested 'em both...and said one was out.
But they didn't have the fuse in stock, so I'm gonna check a few other stores tomorrow.
I fixed the problem for $0.40, as opposed to $120-$300.
If anyone needs help on how to take theirs apart, lemme know.
=)
Keep in mind that mine is the U.S. version.

I did a search last night and noticed a lot of guys talking about replacing these things, but I didn't know WHERE or WHICH, so I didn't respond. But glad to know it seems easy and cheap to repair.
I've been having problems playing DVDs lately (skipping). I was gonna open mine up. I guess there's no more warranty anyway, so what da hell, right?
What do you know about driver versions for the PS2? My buddy says he has a DVD driver v2.0 that installs on the memory card. You get slomo, better chapter search, etc.

My brother dropped his, and after that, it wouldn't power on anymore, I checked the fuses, and they were both out, I bought some spares at Radia Shack and replaced them and it still wouldn't come on. After exmining the motherboard, I realized that it was cracked right down the at one corner about the size of a silver dollar. Took an exacto knife, and my soldering iron, scratched off a the layer on top of the circuit, and soldered it together. Thing works great now!!
Now, I can't wait for my x-box to get here on the 20th. We'll see how that turns out.
