traffic school
I was in traffic school for a speeding ticket this past weekend. To my surprised they showed "Red Asphalt III". I wasn't even aware there was a 3rd version of this classic video. I only saw the 2nd one when I took driver's ed, many years ago. What's more, I didn't expect to see it in a traffic school class.
Anyway, it is pretty gruesome and humbling. There was this one scene of a flipped over car, the driver's head was scrunched up in the corner where the sunvisors are. his skull was opened up at the top to reveal the pinkish/whitish meats of his brain. on the ground right next to the car, was bits and pieces of his brain and skull. The paramedics had white gloves on and were carrying white trash bags and were picking up the brain/skull pieces and placing them into the bags. Then they pulled his limp and mangled body out of the car and into a body bag. There were other scenes too, showing burnt and mangled bodies. One was of a motorcycle rider who did not wear a helmet and got into a wreck. His limp body was on the ground and his head was nothing more than what looked like a pile of meatloaf. It was pretty disgusting.
If there was ever a video to get people to drive safer, this has got to be it. Anyone else seen it?

I probably saw the 2nd one in drivers ed as well... it was pretty gruesome, but I don't think it's effective. All you do is scare people into buying a big-ass vehicle like a suburban so when an accord hits them they don't really notice it that much. The safest driver in the world could still end up dead and having his brains scraped off the asphalt.
