Transferring business schools
Hey guys,
I'm currently working on my MBA. However, since my undergraduate major was Biochemistry and I took zero business classes as an undergraduate, I need to complete about 9 pre-business courses before starting on the core MBA courses. I'm currently near the end of those 9 pre-business courses.
Now, here's my situation and question. I currently live in Northern California, and would really like to move back to Southern California. Whether or not that happens will depend on whether I can transfer my school credits to another business school. Do any of you know if any of the business schools in Southern California allows this? I've already asked UCLA, and they said no. What about the others - Loyola Maramount, Pepperdine, USC, UCI, UCSD?
To clarify, I am about to complete the 9 pre-business classes, and have only taken one of the core MBA courses. So, all I'm looking for is a transfer to a Southern California business school that will acknowledge my having taken the pre-business classes - in other words, I'm looking for a program that will consider my 9 pre-business courses as sufficient to satisfy any pre-business requirements. I don't want to waste more time making them up...I'd like to just continue on starting with the actual MBA classes.
I've also cross-posted this to the Southern California board. Thanks a lot for any info you guys can provide...

Have you tried the businessweek.com business school forums? they are pretty knowledgeable about bschools. Most schools aren't going to let you transfer but maybe someone there can suggest something.

So far, I've only spoken with UCLA, and they will allow transfers from other schools, but won't acknowledge any post-graduate business courses taken elsewhere. So, it'd be back to the very beginning for me, including pre-business courses. I'm basically looking for something that will acknowledge the pre-business courses, and let me start on the core MBA courses.
Anyway, thanks again.
cyber,
You didn't really ask this, but in the long run, unfortunately you'll be best served by going to the biggest "name" business school you can- regardless. It's like the USDA- you want to be stamped "choice" instead of just "good". An unfortunate reality of graduate business education, in my not so humble opinion. Good luck!

SFDukie,
Yeah, I agree - I've heard that reputation is pretty damn important when it comes to business schools. UCLA has a pretty decent business school, and it would've been my first choice, since I went there as an undergraduate and love the area...unfortunately, I wasn't exactly the biochemistry genius, and my grades weren't good enough to get in for business school.
So, I'm currently in the Santa Clara University program, which is good enough for me. I think I'll most likely just finish up the degree there. But, if there's any way I can transfer and move to Southern California earlier, then I'd jump at the chance - I just really prefer Southern California over Northern California, and that's the whole motivation behind all this.
Thanks a lot for the input...anyone else with suggestions, please keep 'em coming...

I am an MBA Student at Loyola Marymount and they will accept the transfers. BTW what school are you doing the core classes now? USF?
As long as you get B's or better, they will transfer all the cores accordingly.
