MBA almost done, thinking about law school
i'm almost done with my MBA! yippie! 4 more classes and i get to walk in the beautiful Pepperdine Malibu campus
now that i'm almost done, i'm contemplating a law degree. has anyone on the board done this? what's your opinion? my 'lil sister is an attorney, and she enjoys her work doing patents and intellectual properties, as does another good buddy of mine who is also a fellow s2k owner.
i know that Pepperdine offers a combined MBA/JD program, but i also believe Pepperdine is not that hot when it comes to law school rankings.
any comments?

Congrats Richard
Nothing against any lawyers out there, but a buisness Fact.
For every person that graduates law school, it will cost American Small Business
1 million dollars.
But hey, everyone has to do something for a living

USC, UCLA, Loyola, you have lots of excellent choices in LA. I got an MBA in Finance from USC and went on to get an MS in Urban Land Economics. I think the second masters really helped my early career.
I know a number of people who have both an MBA and a JD. They are all very glad they did that. Good luck.
By the way, I understand that Pepperdine has an excellent MBA program.

Hey Richard,
A friend of mine that's a mechanical engineer went to lawschool and now he's a patent attorney. You definitely have an advantage in the patent law field, if you were an engineer before.
I was actually thinking about going to law school and becoming a patent attorney. I am an electrical engineer and would've been a perfect fit to become a patent atorney. But, you have to be a certain type of person to be a lawyer. For me, becoming an attorney was just too boring. I like to design systems and play with things. Doing a lot of patent law stuff wou;d've just meant a lot of paperwork.

Hey Rich,
I think the $ is what initially drew my friend into the field of patent law. I had my concerns about him leaving his mechanical engineering job. So far, it looks like it's working out for him, but every now and then, we'll get into a little bit of "geek" talk and I can see that sparkle in his eye. I can tell that he misses his old job and the tinkering that came with it, but the $ is blinding him. I hink he went into patent law so he could stay close to his engineering roots. I think he's as happy as he can be, doing law work. Just something to think about.
