You can't come to the United States and skip New Orleans. I'll show you around personally. Try to keep up.
disappointing that thread goes over a page before N.O. gets mentioned.
having seen most US states and 22 nations... N.O. is not only one of the most unique cities in north america but in the world. after the obvious major international destinations like N.Y. & S.F. I would guide all foreign visitors to new orleans.
i see absolutely no personal appeal of florida but to each his/her own...

Grand Canyon and Vegas are a must see.
I live in FL, trust me, you only need to see key west.

for real Florida (other than key west) is a joke, nothing to see. NYC and Boston are great options. but as discussed before, choose a coast and plan your trip around it. start with East Coast, but I'm partial (other than Florida, of course).
I had a meet in New Orleans once (gymnast here) and, even though i havent been to many places, (born in FL, visit about once a year, live in TX, gone skiing in CO and Reno NV) other than that i havent gone anywhere, but NO was FREAKEN awesome, and at the time i was only 17, so I couldnt do any of the GOOD stuff, its just so crazy, bum fights, crazy ass taxi drivers, weird restraunts, street performers, and then when the weekend comes HOLYYYY CRAPPP does Bourbon street light up. Not to mention theres an Italian restraunt on some street that has 2 430s and the drivers constantly zip them up and down the streets revving the hell out of their exhausts whenever given the chance.
If I could choose to go anywhere in the U.S. to visit right now, NO would definitely be in the top 3. They might not have many large mainstream attractions like some of these bigger cities, but its definitely worth the look.
Then again, my coach at the time, whose a little more.. straight laced, said the place was a dump and he never wanted to go back lol so.. to each his own.

This is a tough request. it is like us saying we will visit Europe for 2 weeks, what to do? When you could easily spend 1 week in just england, or italy, or germany....
I say pick a coast. I prefer the East.
Start in Boston, see a redsox game at fenway.
fly to NYC.. because it is NYC, the most famous place on earth. AND you do NOT want a car here. Dont forget the Statue of Liberty. Skip Yankee stadium, it is new, no real value anymore.
80s movie fan? go to Philadelphia, get a cheese steak and jog up the steps Rocky did.
Washington DC - The most influential govt in the world. White house, smithsonian, etc.
Fly down to Miami. Only spend 2 days there, you can see beaches in Europe, you just want to see the culture. Plus it is expensive.
Drive up to the Kennedy Space Station. See the space shuttles.
Fly to New Orleans. Enjoy bourbon street.
