You will only get the returns you are entitled too but the program is very good.

I have an accounting degree and can do taxes in my sleep, but I like the program just for the neatly prepared forms and electronic records.

What i mean are there alot of returns that the ordinary person would miss when preparing your taxes manually(paper and pen) as oppose to turbo tax where they make these unaware returns that a person that is qualified more relevant? I guess this is what iam getting at. thanks!

I've wondered about this as well.

I am concerned that if I prepare my taxes with an application like this, that I'll miss out on some big deductions and such.

I have a base+commission job, car financed, and my company provides me with a appropriate documentation to indicate certain business expenses are covered by me. So there are some things such as transportation/fuel/insurance/etc where I'd like to make sure they are appropriately accounted.

Should I feel safe going with TurboTax and then next year hit up an HR Block type place to review the previous year's filing? I previously had accountants but I moved across the country so now I don't.

I used turbo tax for the first time 2 years ago and will never pay an accountant to do them again. It is cheaper, faster and IMO just as accurate if not more. I am a homeowner but not a business owner so cannot comment on that aspect. But I can honestly say I don't ever see myself paying an accountant ever again.

I'm a CPA

Turbotax does a fine job for 99% of returns. Just go slow on the interview process it does and double check that you have entered everything.

If you miss something on your return it's because you forgot to enter it. They will ask you for everything you need.

That's great, thank you for your advice and first hand accounts as well!

I think I will give it a shot myself this year and see how it goes. If I expected a larger return than it provides based on my past filings, I'll track down a trusted local account and compare.

Thanks again, all.

I've used Turbo Tax since I started making money and moved out of the house. It's fantastic. I have school loans, a mortgage, health care deductions, self-employed income, child care costs, charitable donations, and investment reportings. It easily allows me to handle all those without a hitch. I even got a few things I didn't know about (until the program prompted me) last year and that gave me a few grand extra (vehicle write-off, for one, due to an accident).

You can either send it through mail or send it electronic it is up to you.

But I believe electronic will charge you a fee for it, rather than just paying for the envelope and stamp and mail it in.

I have been using turbotax for probably 4yrs, being this year will be my 4th yr.
Before I had gone out to have someone do my tax then I go home and do the turbo tax and compare the two. They are identical after I have finished the turbotax and compared.
