I have seen video of my friend stalling out at about 80 feet and crashing staight down. He broke his back. My dad sold his the next week.
Going to guess neither was a real pilot. That sucks and all -- but what can you expect?

Airplanes are airplanes after all and even ultralights, actually especially ultralights because of their inherent lack of inertia require proper and continual training.

For what it's worth you might be mistaking hangliders with ultralights? In that case all bets are off. I've never met a sane person in a hanglider.

You can buy a jetpack now. It costs around $250,000 and can fly for around 30 seconds. Not too many people are buying them.
