US Justice system - another article
I have to agree with Le Car on this one. It is just a dog. Now, before anyone starts, I too would be very upset if this happened to me and I too would be pissed off and would want some kind of retribution...but...that is not my place to decide. I think God will take care of that in the end.
I can think of countless other things the money could be used for and the time spent on this case could have been used to catch murderers of human beings. A human's life is not even close to being equal to that of a dog's and if this Sergent took time away from legitimate investigations to search for this guy, THAT is a collosal waste of time. Put this in perspective: Your wife is out walking the dog and gets shot and killed. At the exact same time, 2 streets over, a dog is thrown into the street by an unidentified man. The same cop gets both cases. Who cares about the dog now??
Lastly, I am sad that this happened and it is wrong, but some things seem ridiculous to me...this qualifies.

Should we send hunters to prison? Fishermen?
Where do you draw the line between an animal that can die without anyone noticing (btw my apologies to the families of the bugs I killed against my front bumper last weekend), and an other animal whose death is a giant drama, nearly equivalent to a human loss?
One of the arguments used by the lady's defence is the fact that she loved her dog and misses it... WTF?!!!
The guy should just apologize, maybe get a fine, and anyway the lady already has another dog, proof that it's just a replacable 'toy' for her.
Again, this is ridiculous.

For some individuals, a dog/cat/or any pet is not only a 'f**king animal' as you aptly put it. While I do agree that $120k is a bit steep for the reward, people need to look at the big picture. Look at what the perpetrator did. This SOB might be capable of doing anything. A running time bomb perhaps??
And you question that she loved and misses her dog? How do you know that she really doesn't?? Are you her shrink??
And I don't believe the issue here is placing the life of an animal over the life of a human. People need to accept the cosequences of their actions.....in this case, IMHO the guy needs to serve his time.
'Land of the free' you say? Yeah, you guys in Europe have it all the better.
Animals have no rights. However, people do.
If you can't see why the general public would have an interest in keeping killers of domesticated animals from killing with impunity, then you don't know much about the adolescent pastimes of serial killers. Where a public interest is at stake, the law has the right to impose criminal penalties.
Also, if you can't see why a person ought to be able to bring a private law suit against this guy for inflicting extreme emotional distress on the owner of this dog, then you are really missing the point of civil justice. Even more compelling is the argument that the dog was that owner's property, of which she has been wrongly deprived.
I think many of you are reacting to the silliness of the hysterical victim. However, it doesn't matter whether the dog was a lapdog or a pitbill, or whether the owner was Stone Cold Steve Austin or that silly lady.

Lighten up on your European brother man. Let me put it in perspective for you. I guess we need to proscute all the Koreans that eat boiled dog huh! I don't condon abuse of anything but I'm gonna tell you if I had to kill and eat a dog I would. Don't let your imagination run wild, he didn't kill anyone, he didn't threaten to kill anyone, he got angry because the lady hit his vehicle. What would you do if someone hit your car? I'm sure that you wouldn't take it lying down now would you.
Get a grip, this countries freedom was founded on Godly principles. Do you eat meat? How do you think it got in the state of being edible? Someone had to kill it didn't they. Are you going to proscute the guy or gal for killing your food. Come on man, this guy lost his temper and took out his anger on the a dog. Not a person! Maybe he felt threatened by the dog, who the heck knows but it isn't worth three years in prison. To much PETA mentality!

I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be unhappy about getting hit by another driver. But, I sure as hell would not grab another person's pet out of their car and throw it out into traffic in anger. I'm no shrink, but it's scary what this guy might have been capable of had there not been a dog in the car to take out his anger on.
I don't belong to PETA or any related organizations, but what's wrong is wrong and he needs to face the consequences.
He probably will not get the full 3 years anyway with appeal and parole.

How exactly would 3 years be placing the life of a dog over a man or a woman? Murder is worth more than 3 years.

WTF? How did this woman put that dog in that situation? By taking her dog in the car, she had a reasonable expectation that it would be thrown into traffic? I somehow doubt if it was a kid you'd be saying the same thing. "Now lady, if you didn't want your kid thrown into traffic, you shouldn't have taken her to McDonald's"...
