Default Usain Bolt.

In the history of sport, has anyone ever been as dominant within his/her own sport as Usain Bolt? IMO, no. I've been watching this kid on TV the last few days competing in the summer games (besides the Beijing Olympics), and he's unbelievable. I don't think there has been another athlete (even the famous ones) as dominant in his/her own sports as he is.

What do you guys think? Sorry if the topic is lame, but this kid is amazing and I just felt like posting about him.

Michael Phelps is more dominant, in my opinion. Bolt "just" has to run fast. Phelps has to swim a number of different ways quickly. More difficult to master them all at the highest levels of the sport.

I'm not discussing about the level of sophistication or skill between sports, but the dominance of an athlete within his/her own sport. It's not fair to runners when you say that. Tiger Woods just has to swing, Phelps just has to swim, etc.

The differences between Phelps (or another athlete) and Bolt are: Phelps has lost countless of times in competitions (as a matter of fact, today he lost twice and won twice in competitions), Bolt has never lost; Bolt just doesn't only win, he obliterates his opponents; Bolt holds the world records in all of the categories he competes in.

I don't think many of you have watched Bolt compete.

I find it hard to believe he's placed first in every competition he's ever entered, let alone won every race he's run.

Bolt doesn't even come close to Phelps. And correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that a silver medal ment you lost. Bolt has several silver medals... thus I believe I'm correct in saying he most definitely has lost.

Phelps has 8 WR (and set many more), Bolt has 4. Phelps has 14 Olympic golds, Bolt has 3.

He's a great athlete, the best sprinter currently. I'd even say he is (for his time) a more dominate athlete in his events (100/200m) than Michael Johnson was in his (200/400m). Phelps dominates to at least the same degree on a wider range of events.... so until Bolt starts setting WR in the 400m events and hurtles I'm going to have to give the nod to Phelps.

Bolt is good but not the most dominant athlete ever
Lot's of great ones around

Boxing - Tyson (when he was good). Ali.
Bball - jordan. Magic. Russel (9 championships)
Hockey - Gretzky
Swimming - already mentioned
F1 - Schumaker
Golf- already mentioned. Sorenstam (more dominant than Woods)
Tennis - Sampras. Federer
Cycling - Armstrong. Merckx.
