I have AT&T and the service sucks. Switching to Verizon in February.

AT&T is the only reason I don't have an iphone.

 

AT&T just sucks period.... between their coverage, and the ridiculous prices on their plans.

^ That map is total and utter crap. I have AT&T and my wife has Verizon and our coverage together is mediocre at best.

 

It seems like Sprint has some pretty aggressively priced plans. All I've heard is that their coverage is crap around here too. I live about 15 miles outside the city and I don't have 3g on my Blackjack @ home, so I turned off our $60/mo internet service. Like I said in the OP, the next step will be to fire AT&T for not keeping up with market demand.

 

I went from an iphone to a pre... have the exact same amount of minutes and still have unlimited text, and internet and I pay $30 a month less than I was paying with my Iphone... Verizon plans seem high as well. Look at the new droid, and the pricing on the required data plans and what not... sh!t is ridiculous. As far as service goes, different providers are going to have good spots and bad spots as far as coverage goes... I have had no problems whatsoever with the coverage Sprint provides.... but thats just me... Arguing that a cell phone provider sucks because YOU have bad service is pointless... the only thing that can really be argued is who provides the best coverage in the most areas

 

AT&T is 3 years behind Verizon on rolling out 3G, which is why its (faster) network is smaller, but considering there are no people in N Dakota, I don't know why I'd need 3G coverage there. If you overlay Edge coverage with 3G you see a much more complete map. Sure 3G is faster in some cases, but its not like there's no data network. Verizon's 3G is 0.6 to 1.4 MB, AT&T's is 3.6 MB and will be 7.4 MB by 2011 year end. AT&T's pure 3G coverage is smaller, but way faster, while Verizon's 3G is really closer to Edge network performance.

Sprint is rolling out 4G now and puts them both to shame anyway.

People bag on AT&T for coverage and Verizon for overpriced services and fees, I don't see how either is better - you either save money and get some poor call quality at times, or pay more and get reamed on stupid fees. T-Mobile has a new $50/mo unlimited calling/data plan which is where I plan to go after my current contract is up. T-Mobile is still on 2G networks, but most of the time I need data, I can access wifi anyway.

My AT&T went 3G at my house last week, verizion has been 3G here for years.
