Verizon vs AT&T

ATT does have a faster network but their network signal quality is so crap that it runs slower in dense markets. My droid raped my iphone 3gs's internet speed in every way possible from downloading email attachments to loading websites. And this was while BOTH had 3g. Whats the point of having 3g service from att when its still slow as shit? ATT's 3g is TECHNICALLY faster but i have never seen those speeds in real life. However, ive tethered both my iphone and droid in 3g areas and the droid will get me 1-1.5 mbs download speed while the iphone got me barely 500 kbs
I'm in a market where AT&T is rolling out 7.2MBps 3G data and its like broadband - its great and noticeably faster.
What network does Boost Mobile rely on?

My 2 cents. I had Bell Atlantic Mobile and then Verizon when Bell got bought out. I had verizon until january 2009. With the exceptions of the early days with analog (and it was rare), I never once (EVER) got a dropped call with verizon and only once found a spot in South Carolina (middle of nowhere) where I had no signal. But that only lasted for about 2 miles. So I had verizon as long as they've been a company. I always had a better signal than anybody I knew on other networks. Fast foward to january. I bought a house in Lugoff, SC. Verizon would not work IN my house but fine outside of it. Since I don't have a home phone, this wouldn't work. I knew ATT worked out there and have always wanted an iphone I went with that. If I am on a call and it switches from 3G to EDGE it will drop the call everytime. I've figured out unless you along a major interstate or a big city you will not get 3G. I recently traveled to south Georgia and I always take back roads. 4.5hrs of the 5hrs trip I get "Searching" or "No Service". My brother who had Alltell had a signal the entire way. Well now Alltel is verizon. My roommate has Alltel and his phone works fine in the house. A verizon phone still won't work in my house. So bottom line is, I love the Iphone but can't stand ATT's service. And verizon doesn't work yet. So either way I'm screwed.
Just to add. Verizon came out with a device that uses VOIP. But I had to pay $200 for this thing and still used your minutes. That pissed me off that I would have to pay for something I should get anyway, a signal. At the time, I thought I would just pay $200 for the Iphone. I wish now I would have stuck with verizon and bought that VOIP device.

Too bad Verizon and Sprint phones are CDMA, which are useless elsewhere in the world. With GSM phones, you can even make a profit when traveling by selling them.

I LOVE the convenience of the GSM phones. Just pop the SIM card into any unlocked phone and use it. And you can sell the phones and save the SIM cards for future use too. I've saved a couple of SIM cards full of information, such as addresses, #s, messages, etc. It's like saving a piece of personal treasure.
