I used to have a nice 43" Pioneer plasma. Great PQ. Gave it to my mom. If I was to buy today, I'd get an LCD because of the benefits over plasmas. I'm currently using a 37" Vizio LCD. PQ is ok. Not as great as the Pioneer though. Got it as a cheap TV for the bedroom. My next purchase would be one of the latest Samsung LCDs.

your comparison is severely lacking.

Um.. lol? Then you woke up and realized top plasmas have better pq, better color accuracy, better color saturation, better static contrast, and less blurring.. or no?
None of the above. It was when I sat down at my Son-in-laws where he had the Vizio Plasma and an LCD and we found the picture was quite a bit better on the LCD. Without a word being said everyone naturally gravitated to the LCD set.

It was also in part because we couldn't run the Plasmas in smaller rooms (12' x 16') without the AC cranked up very high because they acted as heaters.

Oh, and BTW haven't you heard, Plasma production is being reduced or stopped by most major TV manufacturers because the pic can't compete with the LCD. It's not just my opinion.

But don't take my word, simply go to a store that doesn't segregate the sets into Plasma and LCD categories (most do so that they can continue to sell plasmas) and look at the pics side by side.

You'll notice the most difference in darker passages. There is a world of detail in the dark sections of an LCD and just a black blur in the Plasmas.

In the bright sections on things such as water the detail of the waves is stunning on an LCD. If you never see them side by side you'll be happy settling for a Plasma but once you go over to a friend's house and he plays a movie that's in your collection at home you'll start shopping for another set.

A 720 resolution is fine for a bedroom set, but we are just seeing the tip of the iceburg of HD output and soon it will be a BIG consideration and all you guys who "settled" won't be happy. I still say buy as good a set as your pocketbook will allow. In the long run you'll benefit financially.

Is your set professionally calibrated?

Mine isn't, and it looks fine to me. Are you saying that if both sets are NOT professionally calibrated, then picture quality will be comparable?

If this is too difficult. Subsititute these TV company names with their automotive counterparts.

Vizio= Kia
Insignia= Daewoo
Samsung= Toyota
Panasonic= Honda
Pioneer= Ferrari
Hitachi= Acura
Sony= Mercedes
Toshiba= BMW
Sharp= Nissan
