Which VOIP?
My promotional year of comcast digital just ended so my $20 a month is now $40. Was thinking Vonage but from the online reviews everybody hates them and claim you can not get them to disconnect you.
I see a few good things about Hyperdog. Packet 8 had some good reviews but can't get them in my area.

VOICE PULSE HANDS DOWN!
I had Vonage and Voice Pulse concurrently trying them both out. The Voice Pulse was soooo much easier to get up and running (4 lines roll overs, etc) but more importantly you can actually talk to a person if you have a problem.
Vonage has this stupid email system whereby it is at least a day before someone contacts you by email. If you want to actually speak to someone it could take even longer. If you're phone is down or acting up you can't afford that.
About the only thing Vonage has going for them is that you can pick up their modems at many stores. It's still worth the wait to get the Voice Pulse unit overnighted to you (at no extra cost).

That is tied in with the wifi Cellphone access. TMobile makes a router you hook to your broadband connection so you can make voip calls using a wifi enabled cell phone like the blackberry curve. Then someone had a brilliant, yet fairly obvious, idea to add a normal phone jack to it and charge $10 for hard line to voip access. My brother just switched to TMobile for cell phone wifi access because he gets no service in his house, so I'll let you know in a week or so how he likes it.
Thanks for the feedback. I will check out voice pulse and see if I can get them.
What I am looking for is about a 500 minute plan at low cost. I don't use the phone that much, but my wife gets a long distance call from her dad once a week so it has to be reliable.
I am not that worried about tech support but being able to cancel if the service sucks is key. No long term contract, no huge dissconnect charge, and having customer service that will not hang up on you when you want to cancel is required.

I have had the following:
- Sunrocket (GREAT when it was in business)
- Verizon Voicewing (SUCKS!!!)
- Vonage (As good as Sunrocket and still in business).
Vonage has been quite good for me and the call quality is first rate.
