my waist is now more comfortably a 31" or 32", but when I was 25 it was a 30" (I'm 30 now, 6'1, 172lbs.)

I kickbox and work out in the gym pretty regularly. I run, but not distance running (the kind that sheds pounds). instead, I sprint up hills to build up my cardio. (it's an ass kicker of a workout, lemme tell ya!)

I definitely eat healthy-- lots of organic foods, no sodas, a good amount of fruits and veggies (esp. raw veggies), but I still can't kick the red meat habit!-- although when I was 25 was when I started eating healthier. I avoid anything that has "partially hydrogenated _______" or "high fructose corn syrup" and I swear I feel much healthier for it. rather than soda I drink iced tea (the fresh brewed kind-- not the brisk soda-"iced tea" crap from the soda fountain). also I drink a lot of water, which really does a lot more good than people ever realize, and is free too!

that reminds me... I gotta go to the gym....

30 now and have gained 2 inches. I went from 34 to 36 waist. 185 to 220 at 6'2" but it's all over not just gut.
At 25 I was running around campus, working odd jobs, pounding beers on the weekend struggling thru grad school. Now it's more hectic mentally but phyisically life has slowed down as has my metabolism.

The high fructose CS and hydrog fat thing is 100% on the mark. I cut out all soda, fruit drinks, most bread. I have tough time with controlling my diet otherwise due to my job which seems to find my in lunch/dinner meetings about 3 days a week. Whenever I am home and get a craving I make a protein shake (Isopure Zero-carb) with bananas and skim milk. I eat red meat everyday.

I noticed that I cannot get that last 10 lbs off my stomach unless I hit the lengthy cardio really hard. My wife runs everyday and she is hard as a rock but by the time I finish my grueling free weights workout I can't join her because I am 110% spent. I'd rather hang out at the squat rack than on the indoor track at our club. If I have a little left in gas tank I run out the BB courts to play some pickup.

Thanks for reminding me Trit...its 8:30pm and I gotta pack my gym bag for a 5am workout tomorrow.

What about just an inch (instead of 2)? Mine grew an inch in the last 1-2 years or so.

I wish I could get up early and work out-- Schwarzenegger swears that his daily early morning run gives him energy throughout the rest of the day-- but the most I want to do when I wake up is drink a fruit shake and maybe eat a little bit. ya know, sloooowly wake up. it usually takes me atleast 2 hrs before I feel the desire to hit the gym or go for a run-- probably because I avoid caffiene unless I need it.

I do want to snap myself out of that because I really waste a couple hours at the start of my day.

sorry for the thread hijack. now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Good thoughts tritium. I wake up an hour before leaving for work. Usually drink 2 cups of coffee (damn Starbucks). At work by 7:45. Drink several more cups of coffee at work. Rarely drink diet coke and opt for water if I am coffeed-out.

I am 39 years old and am now a snug 34 inch waist. I went to college late at 27 year old when I had a loose 30 inch waist. Before then I had a fairly physical job. But the late nights of studying and the abrupt change in lifestyle seemed to have affected me fast as I grow into a 34 incher by graduation. I have been basically unchanged since 31 years old.

Nothing much seems to work. I weigh 170-175, am 5

31 now. Gone from a 31-32 to a 33-34. I am right now on a quest to get it back down. I can't drop weight as quickly as I used to be able to. That's a result of age. This is why I'm going to stick to this because if I don't get into shape now and maintain it then I'll never get back. THe last 2 years have seen me weigh more than I ever have in my life. Stress and long work hours and mixed up priorities have contributed to this. It's funny though watching TV and seeing magazines have given me the motivation to get into shape. I am happily married, but I started remembering when I used to be in shape and felt attractive to women. I started feeling unattractive. I have lost 10 lbs and now my weight loss has steadied because I've been lifting and adding muscle. I hope my motivation stays because today my sister in law saw me after a month and kept complimenting me on how good I look.

Late thirties, 30 inch waist now . 29 inch in High School . Don't want to be the fat dad I see alot of in my son's school. My wife is a tri-athlete and we eat well but little crap. For me kart racing now (former motorcycle road racer), Martial Arts, pump iron, and surf alot is how I can eat like a pig and not have a gut. My five year old is starting to show a six pack. Can't believe how many porkers in his class . Pretty sad really no real excuses for adults or children to be fat other than laziness .

I was ok until I came to the US and started eating junk food in supersize portions (at age 24). Before that I cycled an average of 50 miles a day at an average cruising speed of 28mph, which kept me in good shape.
I realised how disgusting I looked after my last trip to Ireland, three years ago. I looked freakin' pregnant in some of those photos, and my weight was up to 198 (I'm only 5'7").
So I joined a gym and started getting in shape again. I'm down to 172 now, and can walk 2.7 miles in 30mins on the treadmill, and keep an 11 METS average on the bike and stairmaster for a half hour. I plateaued in the low 170s, but I'm losing weight again and want to get down to around 150, which I think is where I should be.
I don't ever want to be one of those Wal-Mart shoppers who should beep when they back up...

After 25 your motabolism slows down and since we usually make more money we tend to eat out more often not to mention the added stress. I gained some weight after I turned 25 eventhough I workout 5 days a week. I started reversing the process a month ago after watching what I eat and hope to be at my 25y/o weight in a few months. I think it comes down to diet. Do not eat any fast foods and try to cook every meal. Drinking one of the starbucks offies is usually 1/2 your caloric intake for the whole day...ouch
