Waiting for the other
Sorry, the title of the thread was supposed to be, "Waiting for the other shoe to drop".....read on
Well, I have had the roughest past two weeks I've ever had. Last week I was scheduled to do a standard training class in Dayton, OH for Allstate. However with the powers that be, my fiance's grandfather got sick and was rushed to the hospital. Her mom, she, and I raced to the airport to catch a flight to Detroit. Allstate had requested that I facilitate one of the workshops in Detroit while I was up there, fly out to Dayton, and since I was going to be on the road, go ahead and fly out to Baltimor to conduct the executive team training. Well last week I did all that. After missing a meeting with Rick Hesel, I flew back out to Detroit to find the family was "living" at the hospital.
The grandfather was doing better and is expected to be released home come this Thursday. We stayed in Detroit and flew back to Chicago early Monday morning. I took the morning off to run errands and was supposed to get into the office around 1 PM. I saw both the S2K and the Prelude sitting in the garage, and thought "life was good". For those of you that don't know, I drive the Prelude as much as member meat drives his S2K, seeing that it is set up as a show car. The sun was out, the custom yellow on the Prelude looked too inviting, so I decided to drive it. Well first errand before going to FedEx drop off (
, to Rick Hesel) was to run over to the Discount Tires to pick up a new lug adapter to replace the cracked one I have. The service representative convinces me that it's time to do a complimentary tire rotation. Since it was to take only 10 minutes, I said fine.
The service tech does the rotation, but has trouble putting the custom colored ring caps back onto the rims. He in fact breaks one of them completely. I put the other three back on and take the broken one to the sales counter so they could replace it for me. The service rep. has to order me one but informs me that it would cost me $14.95. After showing my disgust and letting them know that they should in fact give me money to replace it but to also get the new one painted. To not make a bad situation worse, I pull out the credit card and order the ring.
I left Discount Tires with my first bad customer service experience with them in 5 years. Half a mile down the road, I notice a steering vibration. I pulled into the first subdivision to take a look. The front driver's side wheel was wobbling like crazy. I turned around to go back to Discount Tires to let them have it....at 25 mph with my hazards on, I was fuming. All of a sudden I see a tire wiz by me and for a fraction of a second I thought, "Hey that's kinda funny."
I realized a second later that wheel was mine. I hit the brakes, the front of the car dipped, I lost control and skidded toward the opposing lane, while another car was skidding towards me (that driver was trying to avoid hitting my separated wheel). Luckily, the car coming towards me missed me by a couple of feet and I skidded to the shoulder of my lane. I ran across the road to retrieve the wheel and as I headed back across the street, I saw the damage done to the car.
It was horrible, I wanted to cry. A perfect $8000 worth of body work and custom paint job was down the tubes. I didn't even get to put it into a car show this season.
I spent yesterday ironing out the details with Discount Tires and my body shop to see the course of action that needs to be taken on my part. Pictures of the aftermath will be posted here later today.
Now I'm just waiting for the third bad thing to happen. You know, all things happen in three's.

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences. If you have any problems with Discount Tire Co. do NOT hesistate to call their corporate offices.
As far as the ring goes, if they break it, you SHOULD NOT have to pay for it.
After working for Discount Tire Co. back in the college days, even if a rim was scratched (which I never did), no matter what it costs to replace, we had to fork up the dough. OEM? Boyd? Momo 3 piece? Doesn't matter, we had to replace it.
Then again, my boss wanted to only do good reputable business (for the most part).

I was hoping that you wouldn't take offense...my statement was to show how I baby the car at the same level you baby yours (seeing that it seems to be a well known fact that you take extreme care to maintain your baby's youthful appearance and engine vitality).
Oh yeah, when's the next mini-Chicago meet? I've run into so many other owners who I'd like to introduce you guys to.

that sucks sorry to hear that. I hope they are cooperating at the tire shop other wise a horrible situation can become more frustrating. Remember this too shall pass.
Let 'em really know that they f**ked up and make 'em pay. Good luck with getting everything fixed, hope your baby gets back to the show circuit soon!
