Watches
Do yourself a favor and wait for a sale. Once a year Movado does a 60% off sale. I picked mine up at a navy exchange for 350, then ran into someone at a party who bought the same watch for 1300. His girlfriend and I laughed, he cried.

who does the sale? I've got my eye on another $2000 movado watch and would love to get 60% off.
60% off....way to the kill the value of the brand....
A local jewelry store here in Baltimore, that had Breitling, Panerai and Rolex was discounting them 20-30% and when the company found out (after multiple occurences) they yanked the franchise.

Navy Exchange (NEX) had the sale that I picked mine up on. For that you'll need a military ID and a nearby base. Otherwise a friend can walk you in and you just give him the money for it. I have read that Movado stores will do that crazy sale price once a year or so. I haven't personally seen it though. Shoot me a pm w/ the watch link and I'll see if I can find it on AAFES.
edit: Heres a link showing this sites crazy discounts of Movado's. It's a couple years old but you get the point, wait until they go on sale.

If you're gonna spend $2K for a watch, why Movado? I mean they're decent watches for those looking for a watch around a grand but there's nothing really special about their quality and barely comes with any status recognition. You can get a much better watch for that price. Perhaps something like an Omega Seamaster? Or even something like a simple IWC Portofino on the upper-side of 2K if you're looking for something more elegant. You have a little more broader choice of much better quality timepieces for that amount.

FWIW as far as build quality and comfort goes I think my $400 movado is better than my $1500 tag. I have been wearing my Tag for about 3 months and the band is so scratched up it looks likes its 10 years old. I have had my Movado for about 4 years, wearing it every day and it looks like its in better shape than the tag.
I agree with Spanky, for $2k, Omega SMP/aqua terra, Breitling, Ball or Seiko (upper end) are better choices. if josh7owens's price is $200*40% = $800. in that price range, i would go with JDM Seiko, Tag (do-able @ $800?), Hamilton, Longines.
I personally have nothing against Movado. I thought they look ok and they successfully created their own image/lineup. And I think they even have some ceramic models. But at the same time, I am not really interested in their watches and I have never owned one myself.
I don't think having a watch scratched up from wear means the build quality is bad. It just means you wear the watch and put some scratches on them. If Tag is using popular 316L steel, then it would be just as scratch-able as Omega and such. Tag has some nice design in recent years, but I don't think they build quality is up to Omega and Ball's standard yet. The Grand Carrera(s) have great details and interesting elements, but I still can't justify the price for one.
